Description
The original painting is by Richard Buckner (1812-1883) and was exhibited at the British Institution in 1860. The model was a Roman boy named Vincenzo who was employed by several English artists including Lord Leighton. This copy is thought to be painted by George Patten A.R.A. (1801-1865) It is signed with the monogram ‘GP’.
It is not, as originally thought, to be by John Phillips RA.
